Teacher

The individual selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children, meet MSDE qualifications for this position, especially in the field of early childhood or development and meet the requirements of the licensing agency. This individual must be a sensitive and nurturing individual who is able to relate to both children and adults.
Job Description
• Plan, supervise and implement the program for the class in accordance with the policies and procedures of AAK Learning Center
• Gear the program to the needs of individual children with consideration of their interests, handicaps, special talents, individual style and pace of learning
• Treat all children with dignity and respect
• Help children become aware of their roles as integral members of a group
• Be responsible for the ordered arrangement, appearance, and decoration and learning environment of the classroom
• Change themes in the classroom at the designated times (School Year and Summer)
• Assume an equal share of the joint housekeeping responsibilities of the staff
• Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to AAK Learning Center
• Attend all staff meetings
• Complete at least 12 hours of continuing education per year- complete credential process within 3 months of employment- therefore more continuing education is required.
• Implement methods of establishing a positive liaison with parents of the children
• Assist in the ongoing evaluation procedures needed to assess the developmental levels of the children
• Attend a minimum of three (3) non-paid events per year
• Provide a two weeks’ notice for supplies that are needed
• Post lesson plans Friday afternoon for the following week.
• Contribute to the newsletter.
• Supervise and ensure the safety and well being of the children at all times
• Report the signs and symptoms of abuse / neglect to the director
• Be alert to the needs and/or problems of the children as individuals and as a group
• Purchase snacks and minor supplies (furnish receipts to be reimbursed) - Always get prior approval from the director before making a purchase for reimbursement.
• Prepare a snack for the children and sit with them while they eat
• Be familiar with and follow the center’s policies and philosophy
• Complete progress reports as needed.
